Zambian law enforcement has scored a significant victory in the fight against cybercrime with the arrest of 77 individuals, including 22 Chinese nationals.

A multi-agency raid targeted Golden Top Support Services, a Chinese-run company suspected of operating a sophisticated internet fraud scheme.

The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) led the operation, which involved police, immigration, and anti-terrorism units. Months of intelligence gathering preceded the raid, prompted by a surge in reported internet fraud cases across Zambia.

Authorities allege Golden Top Support Services recruited young Zambians, aged 20-25, under the guise of call center agent positions.

These individuals were reportedly tasked with engaging in scripted conversations designed to deceive mobile phone users on platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, and chatrooms.

The raid uncovered equipment used to mask caller location and a massive cache of over 13,000 SIM cards, both domestic and international.

This evidence suggests the scam’s reach extended beyond Zambia’s borders, potentially targeting individuals in Singapore, Peru, UAE, and other African nations.

DEC Director General Nason Banda revealed that an increasing number of Zambians have fallen victim to money laundering schemes linked to this operation. He further emphasized the international nature of the scam, with potential victims identified in several countries.

Confiscated Items and Next Steps
Law enforcement seized firearms, ammunition, vehicles, and a significant number of SIM cards during the raid. Zambian nationals arrested have been released on bail to assist with investigations, while the foreign nationals remain in custody.

This successful operation highlights Zambia’s commitment to combating cybercrime and protecting its citizens from online scams. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge.
