Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – In a testament to its historical significance, the newly-inaugurated Adwa Victory Memorial in Addis Ababa drew a distinguished crowd of international leaders and officials today. Among those paying their respects were Success Masra, Prime Minister of the Transitional Government of Chad, Helena Simido, Deputy Director-General of the World Food and Agriculture Organization, Ministers from various African countries, and heads of diverse institutions.
This visit comes just days after the 128th anniversary of the Battle of Adwa, a pivotal moment in African history where Ethiopian forces decisively defeated Italian invaders. The new memorial stands tall as a symbol of resistance against colonialism and celebrates the victory not just for Ethiopia, but for all Black people.
According to Addis Ababa’s mayor’s office, the memorial’s impressive height reflects the lasting impact of Adwa’s victory, serving as a beacon of hope and inspiration for generations to come.
This gathering of international figures underscores the global significance of the Battle of Adwa and the message of unity and resilience it continues to embody.
