A high-level American delegation, including senior foreign officials, will arrive in Addis Ababa tomorrow ahead of the 37th African Union Summit scheduled for this weekend.
The delegation, led by Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Molly Fee and Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Mike Hamer, will hold talks with Ethiopian authorities and other key stakeholders during their stay. Discussions are expected to focus on bilateral and regional issues, including potential collaboration on African Union initiatives.
“Our engagement reflects the strong partnership between the United States and Ethiopia, and our commitment to working together on shared priorities,” stated Ms. Fee upon arrival.
The delegation also includes Dr. John Nkengasong, a leading figure in international health security, and Monde Muyangwa, representing the US Agency for International Development (USAID). Their presence underscores the broader scope of potential discussions, encompassing health and development alongside political and security concerns.
The summit, to be held on 17 -10 February 2024 will bring together leaders from across the continent to address critical issues facing Africa. With a diverse delegation and a focus on both bilateral and regional concerns, the US visit signals a desire to actively engage in these crucial discussions.
