Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The United Kingdom’s Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) and Ethiopia’s National Intelligence and Security Service have agreed to enhance their bilateral security cooperation.
During a visit to Addis Ababa, MI6 Chief Sir Richard Peter Moore met with senior Ethiopian intelligence officials to discuss regional, continental, and global security issues. Key topics included the Red Sea, terrorism, cross-border crimes, and illegal human trafficking.
Both sides emphasized the importance of information sharing and cooperation to address these challenges. Ethiopia’s Deputy Director General of the National Intelligence and Security Service, Ato Sisay Tola, expressed concern about attempts by some parties to exploit Ethiopia’s efforts to gain access to the sea for destabilizing purposes.
MI6’s Moore acknowledged Ethiopia’s crucial role in promoting regional stability and peace. He confirmed his agency’s commitment to strengthening information exchange, technology cooperation, and capacity building with Ethiopia.
The National Intelligence and Security Service announced plans to expand its cooperation with MI6 to a higher level, building on existing partnerships with other African countries and international intelligence agencies.
