Mekelle, Ethiopia –  In collaboration with the Tigray Bureau of Women’s Affairs, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) distributed 6,600 dignity kits to internally displaced persons (IDPs) at the Sebakare IDP camp today.

These kits, valued at $150,000, will be distributed to IDPs, Women and Girls Friendly Spaces, One-Stop Centers, and Safe-houses throughout the region. They contain essential hygiene items like menstrual pads, soap, and underwear, ensuring the health, hygiene, and dignity of women and girls even during challenging times.

“These dignity kits are crucial for ensuring the well-being of women and girls facing displacement,” said Joyce Paklaki, Head of the UNFPA Ethiopia Tigray Sub-Office. She expressed gratitude to the World Bank, UNOPS, the Ethiopian government’s relevant bureaus, and other partners for their support in this initiative.

This donation builds upon the more than 49,000 dignity kits distributed by UNFPA and its partners in 2023. Alemat Amare, Deputy Head of the Tigray Bureau of Women’s Affairs, expressed her appreciation to UNFPA and its partners while acknowledging the need for continued support.
UNFPA’s Tigray office has been working in the region since 2011, primarily focusing on reproductive health programs. This latest initiative demonstrates their ongoing commitment to improving the lives of women and girls in Tigray.
