Munich, Germany – Millions of innocent civilians are bearing the brunt of a malfunctioning global system, warned UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at a security conference in Munich today

“We see countries acting with impunity, disregarding accountability,” Guterres stated, criticizing the current state of international relations. He emphasized that the UN Charter provides a framework for peaceful coexistence and human dignity, but stressed that many governments are failing to uphold their commitments.
The Secretary-General pointed to conflicts like the ongoing war in Ukraine and the tensions between Israel and Hamas as stark examples of a deteriorating world order. He urged nations to recommit to upholding the principles of the UN Charter and work towards greater global cooperation.
