At the request of the Federal Government of Somalia, U.S. Africa Command conducted a collective self-defense airstrike against the al-Shabaab terrorist group on February 9th. The strike occurred in a remote area near Yaq Dabel, Somalia.
Initial reports indicate the airstrike successfully eliminated two al-Shabaab fighters, with no civilian casualties.
U.S. Africa Command continues to assess the operation and will release further details as available. Specific unit and asset information will remain classified for operational security reasons.
