Tigray, Ethiopia – Tigray Interim Admnistration has freed 112 National Defense Forces members in accordance with Pretoria Agreement.
The Tigray Interim Administration has released 112 soldiers captured during the two-year war in the region. This follows the Pretoria Cessation of Hostilities Agreement facilitated by the African Union.
The released soldiers were among 16,000 detainees suspected of war crimes. Their release is part of an amnesty process outlined in the peace deal.
“We trust that the federal authorities will continue to release Tigrayan defense forces through amnesty measures,” the Tigray interim administration said in a statement.
The two sides recently held a review of the Pretoria Agreement’s implementation at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa. However, disagreements persist regarding unmet obligations, including the status of disputed territories and the response to the Tigray drought.
