Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Today, Tigray marked the 49th anniversary of February 11th with celebrations focused on the ongoing implementation of the Pretoria Agreement and the region’s transition from conflict.
Vice President Tsadkan Gebre Tinsae addressed the celebratory event, highlighting the Tigrayan people’s fight for the full implementation of the agreement, signed in November 2023 to end the two-year conflict.

The celebrations were characterized as a “transitional moment” for Tigray, marked by reflection on the international and national landscapes.
General Tsadkan stressed the importance of assessing the path towards an inclusive government and the role the government must play in this process.
The anniversary message focused on unity and resilience, asserting that “no goal is unreachable” for the Tigrayan people if they remain united.
This year’s celebration comes amidst ongoing efforts to implement the Pretoria Agreement, which aims to end hostilities and pave the way for peace and reconstruction in Tigray.
While challenges remain, the anniversary served as an opportunity for Tigrayans to express hope for the future and their commitment to the peace process.
