Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The President of Tigray Region, Getachew Reda, held a constructive meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ireland, Micheál Martin, today to discuss a range of critical issues affecting the region.
Key topics included the implementation of the Pretoria Agreement, the ongoing challenges of returning internally displaced persons (IDPs) and restoring Tigray’s constitutional status, as well as recovery and reconstruction efforts. The two leaders also explored opportunities for Ireland to expand its support to various projects in Tigray.
Deputy Prime Minister Martin reaffirmed Ireland’s commitment to deepening its engagement in Tigray, focusing on development, human rights, and international humanitarian law.
He also expressed his country’s determination to assist the region in the areas of health, education, and security.
The President expressed gratitude for Ireland’s unwavering support for Tigray during the recent conflict and thanked outgoing Ambassador Nichola Brennan for her exceptional contributions to the region.
Both leaders exchanged views on the complex challenges facing Ethiopia and the broader region, discussing potential solutions to address these issues.
