Ato Getachew Reda, president of the Interim Administration of the Tigray region, has openly expressed a lack of trust in the Ethiopian federal government despite a peace agreement signed last year.
In a statement to regional media, he cited the government’s refusal to approve a loan request by Tigray authorities as evidence of this mistrust. He further accused the government of obstructing the return of displaced persons and questioning Tigray’s commitment to disarmament.
The comments come ahead of a review of the Pretoria Agreement, which ended the two-year conflict between the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) and the Ethiopian government.
The president emphasized the need for full implementation of the agreement, including disarmament and reintegration of combatants, which he sees as crucial for lasting peace.
