Mekelle, Ethiopia – Getachew Reda, president of Tigray’s interim administration, downplayed recent unrest in southern Tigray and other disputed territories.

He insisted these issues are not conflicts between the federal government, the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), or the Amhara regional administration.

Reda blames “diehard enemies” of the Pretoria Agreement, a peace deal signed in November 2022, for trying to exploit tensions and derail progress.

He emphasized ongoing discussions between both sides in Addis Ababa to address challenges and build on common ground.

“Our two sides are now convening…to make the Agreement work,” Reda stated, expressing optimism for positive outcomes.

He dismissed calls for renewed conflict from those opposed to the peace deal, insisting that “peace/talking is the only games in town!”
