Seatle, USA – In a speech to Tigrayan diaspora communities, Getachew Reda, the vice-chairman of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) and President of the Interim Administration of Tigray, urged continued efforts towards the “full liberation of Tigray.”

The president remarks came during celebrations marking the 49th anniversary of the start of the Tigray People’s Liberation Struggle. He acknowledged the ongoing displacement of Tigrayans and the unfulfilled right to self-determination, while emphasizing the enduring spirit of the struggle.

Reda emphasized the need for the TPLF to undergo self-reflection and address internal challenges and pledged to strengthen relations between the TPLF and Tigrayans abroad.

He also called for intensified efforts to achieve full liberation of Tigray, return of displaced people, liberation of those under “enemy” control , and realization of Tigray’s right to self-determination.

The Tigray region of Ethiopia has been embroiled in conflict since November 2020, with the TPLF at odds with the Ethiopian federal government. The ongoing conflict has resulted in significant humanitarian challenges, including displacement and limited access to essential services.
