Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The Tigray Interim Government does not have the authority to hold a referendum, according to Lieutenant General Tadesse Woreda, Deputy President of the Tigray Interim Administration.

Lt. Gen. Tadesse made the statement during a press briefing on the implementation of the Pretoria Agreement, a peace deal signed between the Ethiopian government and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) in November 2023.

He emphasized the Interim Administration’s commitment to implementing the agreement fully and maintaining the current relative peace.

The General also indicated that ongoing discussions aimed at overcoming implementation hurdles will be reviewed next week with the participation of all negotiating parties.
