Addis Abab, Ethiopia – The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), a symbol of national unity and ambition, is nearing its final stages of construction. Reaching an impressive 95% completion, the dam’s progress signifies the unwavering commitment of Ethiopians towards this mega hydropower project.

This remarkable achievement is a testament to the collective effort of the nation. Nearly 98% of the civil work and 78% of the electromechanical work have been successfully completed, paving the way for its imminent operationalization.

The upcoming 13th anniversary of the dam’s foundation laying, themed “Together We Made It Possible,” celebrates this shared journey and the unwavering spirit of the Ethiopian people.

The dam’s construction has been fueled not only by government resolve and diplomatic efforts but also by the remarkable public participation. Through their unwavering support, Ethiopians have contributed nearly 19 billion Birr to the project,
demonstrating their deep connection to this national endeavor.

Looking ahead, the project is poised to enter a new chapter. With construction nearing completion, power generation through additional turbines is anticipated to begin soon. The upcoming anniversary celebration will not only commemorate this milestone but also serve as a platform for further resource mobilization. Ethiopians, both at home and abroad, are encouraged to continue their support through various initiatives, aiming to collect an additional 300 million Birr.

The GERD stands as a beacon of unity and a symbol of what can be achieved through collective determination. As the project nears completion, it promises to usher in a new era of progress and prosperity for Ethiopia
