Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – The Tanzania branch of the International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) held a virtual graduation ceremony for its Peace Lecturer Training Education (PLTE) program. The online event, attended by 80 participants including graduates, journalists, and IWPG members, celebrated the completion of the program by 14 women.
PLTE is a global initiative aimed at empowering women as peace educators. The program equips participants with the knowledge and skills to promote peace within their families, communities, and nations.
The ceremony featured speeches by IWPG Regional Director Seo-yeon Lee and peace lecturer Adela Temu, who spoke on the crucial role of women in achieving lasting peace. Graduates also shared their experiences and commitment to spreading peace messages.
“The eradication of war and conflict comes not through force, but through learning and practicing peace,” said Seo-yeon Lee. “We must continuously strive for peace education.”
The successful completion of the PLTE program in Tanzania, coupled with the official registration of the IWPG branch, raises hopes for broader peace education efforts at the national level.
IWPG, a UN-affiliated NGO, works to empower women as agents of peace through various initiatives including peace education, advocacy for the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW), and the establishment of global women’s peace networks.
