Somalia and Turkey Sign 10-Year Military Agreement to Bolster Naval Forces

Mogadishu, Somalia – Somalia’s parliament has approved a 10-year defense and economic agreement with Turkey, aimed at strengthening the country’s naval forces and securing its coastline. The deal comes amid regional tensions, including a controversial pact between Ethiopia and Somaliland that angered Somalia.


Strengthening Somalia’s navy and jointly protecting its coast, particularly against terrorism and illegal activities.


The agreement follows Ethiopia’s pact with Somaliland, which Somalia considers a violation of its sovereignty. Somalia seeks international support to bolster its security and counter regional threats.
Turkey has previously deployed troops in the Horn of Africa and maintains a large military base in Somalia.
