A cargo ship transiting the strategic Bab al-Mandeb Strait near Yemen came under missile attack on Monday, the latest incident in a string of assaults by Houthi rebels on Red Sea shipping.
The ship, identified as a Greek-owned bulk carrier sailing under the Marshall Islands flag, reportedly sustained damage on one side after being targeted twice within 20 minutes. Fortunately, the crew remained unharmed and the vessel continued its journey.
This attack follows months of similar incidents in the Red Sea, often attributed to Houthi rebels allied with Iran. These actions have disrupted vital trade routes and prompted retaliatory strikes from the United States and Britain.
While the motive behind the latest attack remains unclear, the Houthis have previously linked their actions to demonstrating solidarity with Palestinians in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
