Pretoria Agreement Implementation Debated by US Envoys and Tigrayan Leader

Mekelle, Tigray – US Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Mike Hammer, and US Ambassador to Ethiopia, Ervin Jose Massinga, held talks   regarding the Chairman Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), Dr. Debretsion Gebremichael on the implementation of the Pretoria Agreement, a critical ceasefire deal ending the Ethiopian Civil War. The discussion focused on the progress made and the upcoming forum led by the African Union Panel to address outstanding issues.


 Dr. Debretsion Gebremichael, expressed dissatisfaction with the agreement’s incomplete implementation. While acknowledging progress on some aspects, he highlighted key areas yet to be addressed, including restoration of Tigray sovereignty and liberation of its people, return of displaced persons to their homes, delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need, and establishment of the Tigray Army


He emphasized the importance of prioritizing the return of Tigray’s sovereign administration and the displaced population facing hardship. While acknowledging the army issue, they stressed that these immediate needs deserve greater focus.
