A groundbreaking study reveals the HIV vaccine’s remarkable ability to slash the risk of cervical cancer by an astounding 90%. This news holds immense significance, considering cervical cancer ranks as the fourth most common cancer among women globally.

By targeting the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), a highly contagious virus responsible for a variety of cancers, including cervical, vulvar, vaginal, penile, anal, and even some head and throat cancers. By building robust immunity against various HPV strains, the vaccine effectively prevents the virus from taking root and causing harm.

Studies indicate that vaccinated individuals benefit from long-lasting immunity, shielding them from HPV infection for at least a decade. This translates to a significant reduction in cancer risk not just currently, but potentially throughout their lifetimes.

Both girls and boys are recommended to receive the vaccine starting at age 11-12, ideally even earlier at age 9. This ensures protection before potential exposure to HPV, as the vaccine is most effective when administered before infection occurs.
Why prioritize young people? Due to the virus’s widespread nature, focusing on unvaccinated youth who haven’t yet initiated sexual activity is crucial.

The World Health Organization (WHO) advocates for one or two vaccine doses, depending on individual circumstances. Individuals with weakened immune systems may require two or three doses for optimal protection.
