Minister Says Building Lasting Peace key for a Brighter Ethiopian Future

Peace Minister Banalf Andalem urges
focusing on building lasting peace to create an Ethiopia for future generations is crucial.

While addressed representatives of federal and state councils at a training under the theme of “Our Councils for Lasting Peace and Our Success in Building a Strong Country.”
Minister Andalem emphasized the importance of a future-oriented approach to peacebuilding. He argued that dwelling solely on the past hinders progress.

“National consensus is crucial for lasting peace and a strong nation,” he said, “but past methods of achieving consensus haven’t been effective.”

Ethiopia, he pointed out, boasts a rich history and a foundation in ancient civilization. The key to progress, he suggested, lies in learning from the past and working towards a brighter future, as other recently formed nations have done.

“We cannot achieve change by dwelling on yesterday,” he stressed. “We must work together with a vision for today and tomorrow. Longing for a better tomorrow is essential for lasting peace and national harmony.”

Minister Andalem went on to advocate for building consensus on critical national issues to realize a future Ethiopia fit for the next generation. He urged participants to abandon polarizing views and focus on shared narratives for a unified national understanding.

The Peace Minister underscored the critical role of the national consultation commission in fostering dialogue on key national issues. He called for everyone’s participation to ensure its effectiveness.
Discussion participants highlighted the importance of solidarity, respect, and inclusivity for lasting peace in Ethiopia’s diverse society.

Ethiopia Regional Council, emphasized the need to accept all identities equally as a cornerstone for national consensus.
Fateh Sarmolo, Speaker of the Central Ethiopian Regional Council, stressed that achieving lasting peace is everyone’s responsibility.

He called for stronger monitoring and accountability within councils, particularly of executive bodies, to ensure their focus on peacebuilding efforts.
