Mekelle, Ethiopia – In a sign of progress amidst ongoing challenges, the Tigray Interim Administration today inaugurated and opened new asphalt and gravel roads in Mekele city. The ceremony, attended by high-level officials including President Getachew Reda and TPLF Chair Dr. Debretsion G/Michael, highlights the administration’s efforts to rebuild infrastructure and stimulate economic activity.
President Reda emphasized the importance of development even in times of crisis, pledging the administration’s support for such initiatives. Mekele City Mayor Ato Weres Gebretsadkan detailed the project’s scope, including a 12-kilometer asphalt road creating over 1,100 jobs and further plans for expansion at a cost of 2.1 billion birr over three years.
Mr. Birhane G/Medhn, road works manager, emphasized the roads’ benefits in connecting Mekele to rural areas and facilitating economic activity. Residents expressed their appreciation for the project, seeing it as a sign of hope and a product of peace efforts.
