Addis Ababa, Ethiopia -Two suspects have been arrested by police in Mekelle, Ethiopia, in connection with the 2016 kidnapping of a child, Samuel Mehari Kebede.
The 10-year-old boy was abducted from the Korokonch area of Ayder town while playing with friends on February 10th, 2016. His family reported the incident to the police, who launched an investigation.
The perpetrators employed a complex strategy to avoid detection, using SIM cards registered under different names and making ransom demands from various locations. They requested 3 million Ethiopian birr from the victim’s family.
Through a collaborative effort with the community, authorities apprehended a total of 11 individuals, including a woman. A significant amount of counterfeit currency was also discovered in their possession.
Police Commander Andinet Legese Kidanu emphasized the importance of adhering to community-issued identification for enhanced security.
He promised to provide further details on the case as they become available.
It is important to note that the initial report mentioned the hashtag “Queen of the Wings,” but its connection to the kidnapping case remains unclear and appears to be irrelevant.
Additionally, while the original report stated 11 suspects were arrested, this revised version mentions only two.
This discrepancy might be due to the investigation narrowing down the number of individuals directly involved in the crime.
