Jijiga, Ethiopia – Jigjiga University celebrated the graduation of 551 students today, with a focus on their potential to contribute to the development of Ethiopia’s natural resources through their acquired knowledge.
University President Dr. Beshir Abdullahi highlighted this objective during the ceremony, stating, “Jigjiga University is producing students who will help our country develop its natural resources based on knowledge.”
This vision is exemplified by the university’s first graduating class of 56 petroleum engineering students, equipped to support the exploration and development of Ethiopia’s domestic oil reserves.
Dr. Abdullahi emphasized the university’s commitment to ensuring graduates possess strong foundational knowledge in their respective fields. He also proudly noted that 160 of the graduates were women.
The ceremony, attended by university leadership, families, and invited guests, marks another milestone for Jigjiga University. Over the past 16 years, the university has graduated a total of 44,734 students across 44 departments, contributing significantly to Ethiopia’s skilled workforce
