Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The Islamic Development Bank Institute (IsDBI) recently concluded a successful Islamic banking capacity-building program in Ethiopia. Held in Addis Ababa from March 4th to 7th, the program aimed to accelerate the growth of the country’s interest-free banking sector and contribute to financial inclusion and economic development.
Over 35 senior officials from Ethiopian commercial banks participated in the program, which focused on competitive product development, strategic business growth, and building a supportive ecosystem. The “train-the-trainer” approach ensured participants gain the knowledge to train others, fostering long-term growth.
“Unlocking the Potential: Practical Insights for Islamic Banking Success” featured interactive sessions where participants designed Sharia-compliant financial products tailored to the Ethiopian market. Discussions also addressed a strategic roadmap for the sector’s future, considering existing strengths and untapped potential.
Developed by IsDBI, the program was delivered by Mr. Syed Faiq Najeeb and Dr. Farrukh Habib. Participants praised the initiative as a valuable capacity boost for Ethiopian Islamic banking practitioners.
The program concluded with closing remarks from Mr. Frezer Ayalew, Director of Banking Supervision at the National Bank of Ethiopia.
