Addis Ababa,Ethiopia – The validity of a recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Ethiopia and Somaliland is under scrutiny, with a forum convening today to discuss its international legality and potential implications.
Organized by the Federal Institute of Justice and Law, the forum brought together prominent figures like Vice President of the Federal Supreme Court, Ababa Mbiale, and Director General of the Institute, Ambassador Degfe Bula. Other judicial officials and invited guests also participated in the lively discussion.
Ambassador Bula highlighted the Institute’s commitment to protecting national interests by conducting research and raising awareness on critical issues. In this case, the forum aimed to analyze the international legitimacy and potential ramifications of the MoU.
While specific details of the MoU haven’t been publicly disclosed, the agreement has sparked debate concerning its legality. Somalia, which does not recognize Somaliland’s independence, has strongly condemned the deal, branding it a violation of its territorial integrity.
Experts at the forum are expected to dissect the agreement’s terms, assess its compliance with international law, and analyze its potential impact on regional stability and diplomatic relations. This discussion could have significant consequences for the future of the MoU and relations between Ethiopia, Somaliland, and Somalia.
