The Ethiopian Citizens for Social Justice Party (Ezema) has issued a strong condemnation of the ongoing violence in Ethiopia’s Amhara region, urging an immediate ceasefire and accountability for human rights abuses.
Ezema’s statement, released today, accuses government forces of launching attacks that violate basic human rights enshrined in international agreements. They cite reports from the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) documenting civilian casualties in North Gondar, East Gojjam, and West Gojjam zones.
Acknowledging the conflict’s complexity, Ezema emphasizes that “endless fighting only deepens societal suffering.” They renew calls for peaceful dialogue involving all armed actors to achieve political reconciliation and address grievances.
The party expresses grief for lost lives and demands judicial investigations and accountability for security forces responsible for civilian harm. They urge authorities to demonstrate transparency by publicly reporting on the status of investigations and actions taken.
