Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Ethiopian cyclist Kia Jamal Rogora has arrived in Kigali, Rwanda, ready to challenge for the coveted title at the Tour de Rwanda. The 21-year-old, who chose cycling over a university education, will be competing against seasoned professionals like four-time Tour de France winner Chris Froome at the pinnacle of African cycling races.
The 16th edition of the Tour de Rwanda sees 20 national and club teams, each with five riders, vying for the top spot. Rogora, who competes under the UCI banner, is considered a strong contender alongside Tour de France veteran Tsgabu Girmai, Eritrean champion Awt Aman, Algerian standout Ayoub Forkos, and Rwandan favorite Shiaka Jeanniere.
Rogora’s passion for cycling began in his hometown of Dire Dawa, Ethiopia. Inspired by watching Froome conquer the Tour de France as a teenager, he chose to pursue his dreams on the pedals instead of in the classroom. Now, he finds himself sharing the stage with his childhood idol, both vying for the same title on Rwandan soil.
The Tour de Rwanda promises an exciting week of fierce competition and stunning scenery. Can Rogora overcome experienced rivals and write his own chapter in cycling history? All eyes will be on the young Ethiopian as he pushes his limits in pursuit of glory
