Ethiopian Athletes Depart for World Indoor Championships in Glasgow

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The Ethiopian delegation, consisting of 14 athletes and officials, set off for the 19th World Indoor Athletics Championship in Glasgow, Scotland, today.

The competition will be held from March 1 to 3, 2024, and will see athletes from 133 countries vying for medals.
The Ethiopian team comprises six male and eight female athletes, ready to compete in various middle-distance events.

Ethiopian representatives include:
Women’s 800m: Tsige Duguma (reserve)
Women’s 1,500m: Freweini Hailu, Derbe Wolteji, Birke Hayelom
Women’s 3,000m: Lemlem Hailu, Gudaf Tsegai, Hirut Shesha (reserve: Megshnath Vudu)
Men’s 1,500m: Samuel Tefera, Biniam Mehari
Men’s 3,000m: Solomon Barega, Getnet Wale (reserve: Tilahun Haile)
Men’s 800m: Ephraim Mekon
President of the Ethiopian Athletics Federation, Assistant Commissioner Derartu Tulu, was present during the send-off ceremony held at Bole International Airport, along with other leaders.

The Ethiopian team is expected to be a strong contender in the middle-distance events, with hopes of bringing home medals for the nation.
