Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – A team of volunteer cardiologists led by Dr. Tesfaye Telila and his wife Dr. Obsinet Merid, performed 32 heart procedures on patients in Ethiopia last week.
The team, from Piedmont hospitals in Newnan and Fayetteville, USA, volunteered their time at the Cardiac Center in Addis Ababa, where thousands of patients are on the waiting list for cardiac care.
“This is a remarkable impact on the lives of patients,” said Dr. Tesfaye, founder of Heart Attack Ethiopia. “The need for cardiac care in Ethiopia is immense, with over 6,000 people on the waiting list.”
Heart Attack Ethiopia is a non-profit organization founded by Dr. Tesfaye and Dr. Merid with the vision of “saving one heart at a time and leaving no heart behind.” The organization is dedicated to fighting the increasing number of deaths from heart attacks and strokes in Ethiopia and other African countries.
