Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – In a meeting today, Ethiopia’s State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Birtukan Ayano, and US Assistant Secretary for Population, Refugees, and Migration, Ambassador Julieta Valls Noyes, discussed collaboration on critical issues, including refugees and migration.
Ambassador Noyes commended Ethiopia’s commendable role in accepting and integrating immigrants from various countries. She highlighted how Ethiopia provides them with employment opportunities and ensures access to essential economic and social services.
Ambassador Birtukan shared insights into Ethiopia’s long-standing collaboration with the US on education, refugee support, climate change, and international cooperation. She emphasized Ethiopia’s dedication to refugee welfare, outlining the country’s support for over one million refugees through housing, food, and other necessities.
The discussion underscored the importance of global cooperation on refugee protection and solutions, particularly in the face of man-made and natural disasters. Both sides acknowledged the need for a united approach to address the challenges faced by refugees worldwide.
