Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Ethiopia and Kenya have signed a series of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to boost cooperation in key areas like culture, tourism, petroleum development, wildlife protection, and security, marking a new chapter in their long-standing partnership.
The agreements were signed during the 36th Ethiopia-Kenya Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) held in Addis Ababa, co-chaired by Ethiopian Foreign Minister H.E. Ambassador Taye Atske-Selassie and Kenyan Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Hon. Musalia Mudavadi.
Both ministers emphasized the historic ties between the two nations and their commitment to tackling shared challenges like terrorism, organized crime, drought, and climate change. They highlighted the JMC as a crucial platform to further strengthen bilateral relations and regional cooperation.
Key agreements include promoting joint initiatives and collaborations to attract tourists and showcase shared heritage, collaborating on exploration, production, and knowledge sharing in the oil and gas industry, combating poaching and trafficking, and ensuring sustainable management of natural resources, jointly harnessing the potential of the maritime sector for economic growth and food security, sharing best practices and expertise to improve prison conditions and rehabilitation programs, and collaborating on training and development programs for government officials and professionals.
The signing ceremony was followed by a joint press conference where the ministers reiterated their commitment to implementing the MoUs and working together for the peace, development, and prosperity of both countries and the Horn of Africa region
