Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Ethiopia’s Commissioner for the Ethiopian Disaster Risk Management Commission, H.E. Ambassador Shiferaw Teklemariam, has issued a statement highlighting the ongoing humanitarian challenges facing the nation.
Continued drought threats pose significant challenges, particularly in the north where food assistance was previously paused.
While good rains in 2023 brought temporary relief to southern and southeastern regions, continued assistance is crucial for long-term recovery.
Security challenges in some parts of the country continue to create humanitarian needs and impede response efforts.
Over $3 billion is needed in 2024, including for food assistance to 10.4 million people. The government urges international partners and donors to increase collaboration and support to address the growing needs and prevent further disasters.
