Addis Ababa, July 27, 2025 (ENA) – Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed deep concern over repeated provocative statements by the Somali government, labeling them baseless and irresponsible.
In a press release, the ministry emphasized Ethiopia’s long-standing commitment to peace and stability in Somalia, highlighting its significant sacrifices over three decades. Despite these contributions, the Somali government has consistently made unfounded accusations against Ethiopia.
“Ethiopia is dismayed by the unwarranted attempts to deny our critical role in rebuilding Somalia,” the ministry stated. It reaffirmed its belief in regional interdependence, cultural ties, and historical bonds, opting for patience and positive engagement rather than responding to provocations.
The ministry also raised concerns about the growing arms trade in the Horn of Africa, a region plagued by conflict, porous borders, and maritime insecurity. It called for regional cooperation to combat this issue and reiterated Ethiopia’s commitment to fighting terrorism and the illicit trade of weapons.
Ethiopia reaffirmed its support for Somalia’s aspirations for lasting peace, stability, economic development, and regional cooperation.
