Ethiopia, Armenia Announce Defense University Collaboration

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The Armenian Ambassador to Ethiopia, Sahak Sorgesiwen, proposed closer cooperation between the defense universities of Ethiopia and Armenia.


Ambassador Sorgesiwen suggested joint programs for short-term military training, emphasizing the potential for both institutions to share expertise and “modern technology of excellence.”
Discussions with Ethiopian university officials focused on expanding the relationship between the two nations through military education and training. Both sides acknowledged the mutual benefits of collaboration in these areas, potentially extending to research and development endeavors.


The Ambassador’s visit included a tour of the Ethiopian university’s educational programs, including Power Engineering, Electronics, and Armament departments.


Brigadier General Kebede Regasa, Commandant of the Ethiopian Defense University, highlighted the long-standing diplomatic ties between Ethiopia and Armenia. He recalled Ethiopia’s past act of solidarity, offering refuge and care to forty Armenian children during a period of hardship for the Armenian people.


According to information obtained by the Ethiopian News Agency (ENA), the proposed collaboration extends beyond improved training experiences. Joint research projects in new military technologies are also under consideration, signifying a renewed commitment to strengthening the relationship between the two countries.
