Ethiopia and Italy are set to further strengthen their already robust diplomatic relations, with a particular focus on the military field. Chief of General Staff of the Ethiopian Armed Forces, Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, met with his Italian counterpart, Admiral Giuseppe Chavo, to discuss potential areas of collaboration.
Both leaders acknowledged the deep historical ties between the two nations, highlighting Italy’s ongoing involvement in Ethiopian infrastructure projects. They also emphasized the recent agreement between the Prime Ministers to elevate the bilateral relationship.
Discussions centered on identifying new avenues for military cooperation, drawing upon existing experience in various fields. Field Marshal Jula highlighted potential areas for improvement, while Admiral Chavo expressed Italy’s willingness to acquire expertise from Ethiopia and share their own knowledge.
Both sides expressed their intent to explore emerging domains like artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and cognitive warfare. This signifies a forward-looking approach to their security partnership.
This high-level dialogue paves the way for enhanced military cooperation between Ethiopia and Italy. With a focus on joint training, knowledge sharing, and emerging technologies, the partnership aims to bolster regional security and address future challenges.
