Addis Ababa, Ethiopia -The Ethiopian Red Cross Association has announced that two Landcruiser vehicles with plate numbers 5-02826 and 5-02830 were taken by armed forces in Amhara region on February 6, 2016.
He explained that while the vehicles were on their way to South Gondar and North Gondar zones to help the association’s humanitarian work, they were intercepted by the gunmen at a place called Asteryo Maryam, 30 km from Mota city in East Gojam zone.
The Ethiopian Red Cross Society has stated that the society will not take responsibility for any kind of activities carried out using the vehicles and requested that the forces that took the vehicles be returned to the society and used for normal humanitarian activities.
“Even today, the attack that is a challenge to our humanitarian services continues,” said the association. On February 09, 2016, following the drought in Wag Hemera zone, the association carried out humanitarian activities to help vulnerable people. Although there were no injuries, the vehicle was damaged, he said.
The Ethiopian Red Cross Society has appealed to any fighting forces that attack, to allow the association’s workers, volunteers and vehicles to move freely and carry out their humanitarian duties, to protect their safety, to refrain from such acts and for the society to condemn their actions.
