Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – 20 brand new electric minibuses have begun serving commuters in the Ethiopian capital, marking a significant step towards a more sustainable and efficient public transport system. The Addis Ababa City Transport Bureau announced the launch today highlighting the opportunity for private investors to contribute to improved accessibility and service.
These initial minibuses operate along two established routes: Bole-Millennium-Stadium-Mexico and Bole-Millennium-Gion_Piazza, utilizing existing fares.
The Transport Bureau expects the introduction of electric vehicles to not only enhance the overall public transport supply but also significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to a cleaner, more attractive city.
This initiative aligns with Ethiopia’s national goal of decarbonizing its transportation sector and aligns with Addis Ababa’s vision for a greener, more modern urban environment. It is anticipated that the success of this initial phase will pave the way for the further integration of electric vehicles into the city’s public transport network
