Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The Dire Dawa University Teaching and Referral Hospital, a new facility built with a budget of over 1 billion birr, was officially inaugurated and began offering medical services to the public.
Dignitaries including Dr. Dereje Duguma, State Minister for Health, Keder Juhar, Mayor of Dire Dawa Administration, and Dr. Ubah Adam, President of Dire Dawa University, attended the opening ceremony.
Dr. Duguma highlighted the significant impact the hospital will have on improving healthcare access and quality in Ethiopia’s eastern region. He emphasized the hospital’s critical role in addressing the growing demand for medical services, especially in Dire Dawa, a key commercial and industrial hub in the region.
The minister further pledged the Ministry of Health’s unwavering support in ensuring the hospital’s full operational capacity.
The new hospital boasts a 400-bed capacity, four major and four minor operating theaters, a delivery room, an intensive care unit, pharmacies, research facilities, and various other departments.
