Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – A national committee tasked with resolving the border dispute between the Amhara and Tigray regions of Ethiopia has undergone a performance evaluation. The evaluation, which took place in the presence of high-ranking officials including Deputy Prime Minister Ato Temeseng Tiruneh and representatives from both regions, aimed to assess progress made towards a sustainable settlement based on the country’s constitution.
Discussions focused on both the accomplishments and delays encountered by the committee. Key strengths and weaknesses in the implementation process were identified, with a strong emphasis on the need for immediate and lasting solutions to address the political, social, and economic challenges faced by the disputed areas.
A critical point raised during the evaluation was the prioritization of the safe and swift return of displaced persons. Building trust in the resettlement process was deemed essential.
