Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Chad’s Prime Minister, Success Masra, praised the Adwa Victory Memorial as a “permanent monument of the freedom and dignity of Africans” during a recent visit to the historical site.
Masra joined other leaders and ministers in touring the memorial, which commemorates Ethiopia’s decisive victory over Italian forces in the Battle of Adwa in 1896.
He described the memorial as a powerful symbol of “Africanness” and the continent’s fight for independence and self-determination.
Masra highlighted the Adwa victory as a pivotal moment that inspired and encouraged resistance movements against colonial rule across Africa.
He urged Africans to learn from the past and work together to achieve “universal freedom” and build a strong future for the continent.
Masra also expressed his gratitude to Ethiopia for commemorating the spirit of freedom and offering a place for Africans to reconnect with their proud history.
“The Adwa victory memorial is a permanent heritage of Africans’ pride, independence and glory,” said Masra.
“The victory memorial is a great reflection of the battle in which Ethiopians protected the honor of their country by kneeling the colonial rulers.”
