Seoul, Korea -The International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) is joining forces with the Tanzania University African Universities Trust (UMOA) to advance peace education and development in Tanzania.

This exciting collaboration was solidified through a virtual Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing ceremony on April 13th, 2024, between Regional Director Seoyeon Lee of IWPG Global Region 2 and UMOA Representative David Mwangombi.

UMOA, known for nurturing future leaders in community development, human rights, peace education, and life skills, will collaborate with IWPG on initiatives specifically designed to empower women and young people. These initiatives include:

Peace education workshops for local women: Through IWPG’s signature events and the Women Peace Lecturer Training (PLTE) program, women in Tanzania will gain valuable knowledge and tools to become agents of peace in their communities.

Participation in the International Loving Peace Drawing Contest: This global program allows children to express their visions of peace through art, fostering a culture of peacebuilding from a young age.

“We are thrilled to partner with UMOA in this crucial endeavor to build a more peaceful Tanzania,” expressed Regional Director Lee. “This collaboration strengthens our capacity to empower women, educate young people, and contribute to lasting peace and development across the region.”

UMOA CEO Ebenezer David Mwangombi echoed this sentiment, emphasizing, “This partnership is a fantastic opportunity to expand participation in IWPG’s impactful activities. We are committed to working hand-in-hand with IWPG to achieve our shared goals.”

Director Lee also highlighted promising discussions held with Tanzanian officials, including Special Group Presidential Advisor Sofia Mzema and Ministry of Gender Equality Executive Director Saif Sekalage, during the recent UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in New York.

These discussions are expected to pave the way for even more accelerated peacebuilding efforts in Tanzania.

The International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) is a globally recognized women’s organization with Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the Department of Global Communications (DGC).

Headquartered in Seoul, Korea, IWPG collaborates with over 110 branches and 660 partner organizations worldwide to advocate for peace education, empower women, and build a future where peace prevails.
