Auckland, New Zealand – A Boeing 787 Dreamliner operated by LATAM Airlines experienced a technical issue on a flight from Sydney, Australia to Auckland, New Zealand, resulting in minor injuries to passengers.
Boeing has launched an investigation into the incident, which involved a pilot’s seat coming into contact with the plane’s controls. The Wall Street Journal reports that a flight attendant may have unintentionally pressed a button causing the seat to move.
The sudden movement caused the plane to dip sharply, throwing passengers from their seats. LATAM Airlines has confirmed approximately 50 passengers sustained minor injuries.
While the investigation continues, Boeing has advised all 787 Dreamliner pilots to conduct thorough pre-flight checks of their seats.
BBC report contains a passenger’s account of the incident, mentioning head injuries and damage to the plane’s ceiling. Thankfully, no serious injuries have been reported.
Boeing Statement: Boeing has declined to comment on specifics of the incident, stating that details will be communicated to investigators.
LATAM Airlines confirmed cooperation with authorities in the investigation. The airline also reported the cancellation and rescheduling of the flight to Santiago, Chile.
This incident follows a January inspection revealing missing screws on a Boeing plane door and the recent death of a former Boeing employee who raised concerns about safety standards.
