Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Four suspects have been arrested for allegedly damaging vital laboratory equipment at Ayder Referral Hospital, according to Ayder Sub-City Police.

The incident occurred on March 21, 2016, resulting in the destruction of three critical machines, including a Cobas 6,000 laboratory analyzer capable of performing over 100 different tests, said Dr. Abrha G/Egziabher, the hospital’s director.
Authorities believe the vandalism was intentional and motivated by personal gain.

“Ayder Sub-City Police Commander G/Christos Fasil confirmed the arrest of four suspects,” the statement reads, adding that a thorough investigation is ongoing due to the complex nature of the crime.

Dr. Abrha appealed to the public for assistance in repairing the damaged equipment.
