Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – President of Tigray Interime Administration Getachew Reda said that the African Union (AU) is convening a critical meeting to assess the progress of the Pretoria Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (COHA) signed by the Ethiopian government and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) in November 2022.
In a peice he dessiminated via social media todaz he emphasized that this strategic review will serve as a platform for both parties, along with AU representatives, observers from the United Nations (UN), European Union (EU), Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), and the United States, to comprehensively evaluate the implementation of the Pretoria agreement.
The successful execution of the CoHA is considered paramount to achieving lasting peace in Ethiopia and the broader region, he undescored, adding that this review aims to identify areas where progress has been made and address any lingering challenges.
A central focus will be placed on comprehensively addressing the legitimate constitutional demands of the Tigray people and stakeholders acknowledge that a sustainable peace agreement cannot be established without resolving these concerns, he stated.
According to the president, this strategic review comes at a crucial juncture, offering a much-needed opportunity to assess the COHA’s effectiveness and pave the way for a more peaceful future for Ethiopia and the region
