Addis Ababa – Ambassador Teshome Toga, Commissioner of the National Rehabilitation Commission, announced on February 9, 2016, that Ethiopia is making significant strides in rehabilitating former militants. During a discussion organized with the African Union Commission, Ambassador Toga revealed that over 371,000 ex-militants have already been successfully reintegrated into society.
The Ambassador’s presentation highlighted the ongoing four-phase program designed to support ex-militants, including detailed projects, resource requirements, and pre-demobilization initiatives. He emphasized the crucial role of development partners, friends of Ethiopia, and the government in ensuring the program’s success.
Over 371,000 ex-militants have been rehabilitated through collaborative efforts with national defense and regional authorities.
Ambassador Toga presented program details and resource requirements for the remaining phases.
Tigray region’s interim administration, represented by Mr. Getatehu Reda, reaffirmed their commitment to the Pretoria Peace Agreement and ex-militant rehabilitation.
