Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The African Union (AU) will hold a strategic review on the implementation of the Pretoria Agreement, a ceasefire deal signed between the Ethiopian government and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF).

The United States confirmed that its Special Envoy to the Horn of Africa, Mike Hammer, will be in Addis Ababa from February 28th to March 4th to participate in the assessment.

The AU’s review aims to identify additional steps needed to ensure lasting peace in the region, according to the US State Department. This comes as the Tigray Interim Government repeatedly expresses concerns about the slow progress in fully implementing the agreement.

Tadesse Woreda, the vice president of the Tigray Interim Administration, emphasized their commitment to peaceful implementation of the Pretoria Agreement and their pursuit of the return of occupied territories, as outlined in the deal..

The review process will involve participation from negotiators from both sides, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation of the agreement’s implementation
