Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The 37th Ordinary Session of the African Union Summit concluded today in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with a closing ceremony led by newly elected Chairperson, Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani.
President Ghazouani emphasized the key outcomes of the two-day summit, including the completed evaluation of Agenda 2063, the continental development blueprint’s first ten years. He announced that the next decade will prioritize modernizing Africa’s education system to fuel future growth and stability.
Ghazouani reiterated the African Union’s ongoing advocacy for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, asserting Africa’s right to contribute to global security issues.
The Chair urged all member states to work collaboratively towards a “peaceful and stable, well-governed, prosperous Africa, where human rights are respected.” He emphasized the importance of cooperation in strengthening Africa’s image on the international stage.
Ghazouani declared that deciding Africa’s own destiny is “an inevitable issue of survival,” calling for solutions to internal challenges through African institutions without external interference.
The new Chair pledged to prioritize continental peace and stability during his term, working to strengthen internal ties and address ongoing conflicts.
The 37th AU Summit showcased a renewed commitment to continental unity, development, and self-determination as Africa sets its sights on the next ten years of Agenda 2063.
