African Union Summit Ends Peacefully, Security Forces Praised for Collaboration

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The Security and Safety Joint Task Force has concluded a review of the recent 37th Summit of Leaders and 44th African Union Executive Council, declaring the events a success and praising the joint efforts of various security agencies.

Ethiopian Federal Police Commissioner General Demelash G/Michael highlighted the transformation in collaboration since Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s reforms. Previously, agencies reportedly operated independently, hindering effectiveness. However, the recent Summit showcased unified action, credited with ensuring the safety of over 8,000 guests and journalists.

Commissioner General G/Michael also commended the Ethiopian public, particularly Addis Ababa residents, for actively supporting security efforts. He emphasized the crucial role of citizen participation beyond technological advancements.

Deputy Director of National Intelligence and Security Service, General Sisay Tola, echoed this sentiment, attributing the success to strengthened institutional collaboration.

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Birtukan Ayano, emphasized the tireless 24-hour service of security forces in welcoming guests without incident.
The Republican Guard’s commander, Major General Jamal Abduro Kedir, lauded the collaborative efforts as the key to the Summit’s smooth operation.
