In an effort to end the decades-long conflict between the Afar and Somali regions, a delegation led by the President of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs of Ethiopia met with officials from both regions for the first round of peace talks.

The discussions, which included government officials, religious leaders, and community representatives, focused on finding a lasting solution to the security issues that have plagued the region for years.

“The initiative shown by the government officials to start peace talks is very encouraging,” said a statement from the Supreme Council. “We ask the federal government and religious leaders to help in every way possible for this wonderful cause of peace.”

The talks are expected to continue with delegates from the Afar region government in the near future.
The conflict between the Afar and Somali regions has been ongoing for over 50 years, with tensions often flaring up over issues such as water and grazing rights. The lack of a sustainable solution has led to recurring violence and instability in the region.

The recent peace talks represent a glimmer of hope for an end to the conflict. With the involvement of religious leaders and community representatives, there is a chance that a lasting solution can be found.
The statement from the Supreme Council calls on the federal government and religious leaders to support the peace talks. This support is crucial for ensuring the success of the talks and bringing peace to the region.
